Bain & Company What is the likelihood of making SAC in September 2022 if I join as an AC on April 18th at Bain & Company? I am a senior consultant at EY with 3.5 years of experience in Data Analytics. Or is March 2023 more realistic? They told me 6 months for promotion but it seems like the two promotion cycles with my different start dates give me 4 or 9 months of experience, nothing in between. I’ll be joining in the private equity group which will be new for me.

I was with Huron for several yrs and now at a startup. What you’ll miss: methodology, structure, resources, tools. So if you like those things, a startup doesn’t have it nearly as much as Huron. You will find more innovation and tech, but much less support structure. Industry (Healthcare) is so slow and political, I’d avoid that.
Do I work with you? Lol. I’m In the exact same headspace right now....
Some more context - I am not in our revenue cycle business which I feel is consistently driving great results and has a big enough business to keep a broad base of talent. My area is small and I don’t really believe in the type of work we are doing, and I feel we don’t have enough volume to really retain “best in class” content knowledge. I’m wondering if I move somewhere bigger if there will be better resources, better methodology, better technology, better tools or if I am just delusional and need to wait till I can secure a role outside of consulting.
I think that’s all the more reason to explore moving areas. They will be motivated to keep you and find a good fit. While backfilling may be hard, it’s a lot easier if you’re still around to ask questions. I personally tell all my coachees that I want to know if they’re thinking of leaving because if I don’t know something is wrong I can’t even try to fix it. If you’re not comfortable telling your coach that you are thinking of leaving and want to explore other options internally, I would reach out to RM or PIBSS to see if they have ideas for you.
