Pretty sure you can’t negotiate your merit increases. You get what you get and that’s why you’re supposed to negotiate your offer when you first start, so you can have better salary increases. Good luck.
SC1 it depends on there rating showing potential it is much lower
3-8%
Is 3-8% the average?
Depending upon how well you do and you well the practice is doing
Yeah probably no negotiation in this. What’s their motivation to give you more than the others (Hint: 99.9% of the time it’s only an outside offer)
if it’s not a promo year, i would personally expect 10%... maybe my expectations are high, but they don’t seem like it to me. if you’re at $65k and you get a 10% raise... now you’re at $71.5k. that shouldn’t break the bank at any firm that values your contribution over someone who just graduated and has no experience.
usually it is a noticeable difference because they have different salary bands. so idk what you are making or the progression is, but let’s say for example that your firm has a range of $60-72k for associates (years 1-2) and $75-90k for senior associates (years 3-4).
say you only have an undergrad degree and no experience, so they brought you in at $60k. so if you were at $60k and a 10% raise in year 1 going into year two, now making $66k, but year 2 going into year 3 you got promoted, the lowest raise you could get would be to $75k (in this example). so that is more than the 10% you received in your first year because you are jumping to a new salary band.
not saying this is true at all firms, just in general
What is the average and then what would be an above average percentage increase going into second year. I look forward to hearing all of your opinions, thank you.
Thanks everyone for your valuable opinions!
