Hello,
There are different areas of SEO. Content side, technical, local search, etc. It’s measured overall by how you can increase rankings and traffic depending on the company's goals. I suggest checking out some courses on Udemy,
It’s absolutely a plus to know & even have hands-on experience in all the areas. An SEO specialist working for, say, a digital agency might be exposed to several areas and wear different hats. Yet, some focus on specific areas as their expertise.
Ex: I’ve been exposed to different areas of SEO; however, I have more expertise in the local search SEO area with other components.
Exploring different areas through courses will give you more insight into what areas work best for you, even if it’s all of them.
Hi Henry,
SEO is a craft where experience (and curiosity) is often what separates a good practitioner from a bad one. A course isn’t going to give you much more than some rudimentary knowledge that won’t really tell you what your future clients should focus on. Being a consultant is not about giving clients a long list of tasks to do, but to help prioritize between a million things, and help set both expectations and point to a way forward for them to reach their goals. A course won’t teach you that.
In all honesty, and this I learned from my own experience, you’re better off finding an entry-level SEO position and climb that career ladder for a few years before attempting to become a consultant.
But I’ll leave you with some reading tips:

The same in book-format if you can get hold of it somehow:

And later on I would add an advanced book to the reading list but you probably wouldn’t get too much out of it at first:

I would start your own blog/website so that you can put what you are learning into practice.
