I have an initial recruiter phone interview with Square Thursday. Is it it just a phone call or is it a video call and they didn’t specify. If it’s a video call what’s the dress code like? I’m coming from consulting so all my interviews were in suits. Any tips to get past the recruiter phone screen?

Hey, I have 4 YOE and currently a manager at PwC and have been managing teams for a little over a year now. My role mainly consists of leading teams of engineers deliver MVPs to our clients.
If I wanted to exit to Google or Facebook (Meta) what role would align for me? I was looking at engineering manager roles but unsure if that’s too senior for me.

It's easier to exit from a larger corporation to a smaller one at executive levels than the other way round. You also have more runway at larger ones unless the smaller one you mention has massive growth potential
I’d go with the bigger company personally, but I also prefer the stability of F500s. That part of the decision is personal preference.
Is there any way to negotiate flexible work arrangements until the new office to reduce the number of days you have to commute 75min? Especially if they’re not yet mandating everyone return to office, maybe you could ask if you could go in 2-3 days a week?
I think the second role would be 9-6…eventually. But would definitely need to prove myself in the beginning, probably even more than the first job, because it’s such high visibility. I think the role itself is really exciting but given how covid has allows me to be really present in family life even the 1 day a week of travel is an unappealing thought.
I think with the first role, they really “walk the walk” when it comes to culture (eg mothers, fathers, adoptive parents have 6 months full pay for parental leave) so it really is more family friendly (which is probably also reflected in pay).
I think I am not thinking long term enough so your comment has really helped crystallise a few things!
and potentially P&L ownership after that. Role reports into C suite and frequent collab of exco. People are also smart with no ego, relatively flat working style. 4.5% pay cut and big bonus potential. 30 min commute to local office but Head office (at least once a week) is 2 hours one way, so a day there would be equivalent to a “travel” to client site.
Mitigating factors: I have very young children and want to be present in their lives; I am the primary income contributor in my household; I currently work at boutique so a big name would be helpful on my CV
Immediate role is better in second job, probably the role after initial role is equal to role after first job.
Hear you on smaller companies, I’m at a small boutique right now and love the tight knit feeling - but that’s also why I wonder if I need the bigger org for stability/name recognition.
