hey all - Did medication help you be more eloquent and concise during meetings? I'm wondering if it helps you with executive presence. I record how I sound and when I listen to it, I find I could have rambled less. Also, my SO tells me I'm my harshest critique, so I'm trying to be aware of that while also making progress. Any tips on making progress in this space if the meeting or topic was not preplanned and I didn't have time in advance to prep?

I ask myself before speaking in meetings:
1) Does this need to be said?
2) Does it need to be said by me?
3) Does it need to be said now?

If any of those is a no, then I don't say it.
If all are yes, then I write a note with the key point and just say that.

... But be prepared for NTs to always have some beef with ND communications. I recently caught hell for asking a question I wanted an answer to because the NTs ascribed some secret agenda or subject to it. It was just a simple question. 🤷‍♂️

Good points..I have FOMO for staying silent when I see something obviously wrong that someone else picks up later and gets the credit and the accolades. On the other hand sometimes when I speak up everyone else already knows the answer to it and I look stupid in front of the team. When it's the latter I beat myself up, eat poorly for the rest of the day and ruin my evening that impacts my family. Wondering if a prescription would fix this

It helps me some, but I still feel I get too rambly. Before doing most conversations, I give myself bullet points & kind of rehearse what I want to say/ run through it in my head for a minute or two and that helps keep me on track.

In more conversational areas, I still get rambly but have gotten better by cutting myself off when I feel it coming, and saying “I just rambled a bit, but in short… with my original point”. I think acknowledging it is better. And it’s okay to admit you don’t know/have to look into or reflect on something, to make sure your responses to important questions are more succinct with the correct tone when you do respond

In short 😉 adhd meds help some, but practice and giving myself grace to get back on track or revisit something later helps a lot

It didn’t help me be more eloquent. It did help me a bit with organizing all of my thoughts. I still get feedback that I ramble and I’m super self conscious about it. But I’m also afraid that if I don’t speak up, I’ll get feedback about that too. I feel so defeated. 😔

ADHD Medication can improve clarity and thought processing but it may sound like you have public speaking anxiety. It may be helpful to take short acting anxiety meds like benzodiazepines before public speaking, or simply practice public speaking so you’ve got the hang of what you want to say (try some cookie cutter phrases to practice around substantive things, which may change day to day)

I’m struggling. I left an agency I liked last year due to growth limitations and since then I’ve worked at 2 different agencies and can’t seem to find my footing. The first one seemed like a good fit at first but then it turned out to not be the best place for me so I left. At my current agency I feel super undervalued. I’m always raising my hand and offering to help where I can and no matter what I do, I don’t feel utilized or valued or part of the team. It’s really taken a toll on my confidence

I am starting to believe 35+ of having not managed my ADHD has really negatively impacted me in career growth etc. I'm realizing a lot of things about myself are because of the ADHD. It’s looking like my job is gonna start asking us to return to the office. We have an open office plan and before we wfh FT I would save all my work for my telework days bc I can’t get shit done in the office. I’m having major anxiety about them making this decision.
