My oldest is a special needs child and the hospital didnt provide any accommodations (Didn't allow him to stay with us overnight). Thankfully my mother lives nearby and she was able to watch our oldest while my wife was delivering.
Does your employer offer a childcare benefit? I know this was a trend during the pandemic to get in-home care for elders and children while people were working at home.
No. They do not. Boutique.
I'd start looking for a sitter you can trust now. We were in a similar situation a few years ago right after we relocated. We found someone who the kids loved (and we trusted) and she agreed to be on call for when our third arrived. It was a life-saver. She just came and slept over while we headed to the hospital.
We have one we’ve used all summer. Haven’t made that leap let, but it’s a good idea.
We made our in-laws come over (we lived away from everyone) as we got close to a due date so the oldest would be taken care of.
When I was a kid my sibling and I went to my mom’s friend for days when my youngest sibling was born. My only other memory of this person was I got stung by bees when at her house (a different time). But apparently she was trustworthy.
We have a friend on call actually. That was the only solution we could come up with.
I had my second two kids at home with a midwife. Much better than the hospital experience.
After nearly losing my wife and first child during birth, I couldn’t imagine.
