I disagree with both posters. I know numerous people without consulting experience who are now consultants. If the experience and skills are related to the role responsibilities then the applicant should be fine.
Not really, consultants are usually experts in their field and being able to work as one requires a track record of success and years of experience. That's what makes them so valuable. Merry Christmas!
If you've been working in the industry for a while and are looking to become a consultant your best bet is to look into becoming part of a consulting firm, find a mentor or network with people who have that job. It's a highly desirable position so it won't be that easy. Merry Christmas to you as well!
