It’s called a Fit call. Absolutely treat it like an interview because they’ll decide if they want you on their team or not and may write a support letter to hiring committee.
Find out anything you can about the specific needs of the team/role so you can highlight your appropriate skills
Pro
Fwiw… it’s not a technical interview but rather how well you get along with the hm.
It will mostly be friendly unstructured chat as earlier interviews have confirmed you’re google worthy. But bring your A game since the manager is going to decide if he/she/they want you on their team based on these 30 mins.
In a nutshell you are trying to impress the hm enough to be selected for his/her team.
You're always interviewing until you get the offer. This conversation might not be a formal interview in the sense of being asked to whiteboard some code, but you'll more than likely be asked questions about your work experience, professional goals and wants/needs from your next job/manager. That's an interview.
Thanks all, it makes sense that the HM will make the final decision after this call. The advise on what to highlight really helps….few follow-up questions
1. Should I only highlight my cloud experience relevant to GCP or everything cloud is game?
2. I’ve only spoken to one member from the team and he didn’t leave much time for Q&A, do I ask the HM specific questions on the day to day role or will that look bad?
3. Level has been in question for me since we began….I have 8 TYOE, 6.5 relevant and asking for an L5 but could be down-leveled to L4, do I bring this up at all?
4. Anything specific I should highlight on my goals as it relates to GCP and TAM….All I know is that you handle more complex clients with broader scope as you grow in the rolw
If you've passed HC, you've got a year to find a team. Remember that this talk goes both ways. If you don't like this team, you can get fit calls with others to see if there's one that is a better fit.
