I wouldn't mind someone contacting my employer after onboarding. Is there a specific reason you wouldn't want them to?
Oh ok, so are you afraid you would lose your severance? Is there anything in your severance agreement that says it'll be terminated if you get another job?
This seems like a privacy violation/legality issue, or am I tripping about that?
it did not happen but just asking - does such situation arise ?
I will usually allow a verification of dates, but not to speak with them in the interview process. The reason is largely because in a couple of cases, my former leaders aren't even there anymore. There's nothing to know. I figure it saves them time.
I just had to give pay stubs but then again, my last employer went under a few months before I got the offer so may have been a special case
If you have marked no to contacting your current employer in the background check, you may still be asked for permission to verify your current employer after you have been onboarded. This is because the company may want to get a more complete picture of your employment history.
