You’ll be fine. Check Culver City, Encino, Sherman Oaks if you want to stay in the city. As soon as you buy a house you’re pretty much set. Try to get something you can stay in for a while.
Figure out the format of your commute between work a neighborhood you want to live potential schools for kids. The traffic will wreck you if the three are misaligned.

Are you trying to rent or buy? If you're consultants, do you travel a lot? Where is your office and do you need to be there?
What do you want out of a neighborhood? Do you value nightlife, outdoors/hiking, etc.?
We can all give better suggestions if we know a few things. Evaluating how LA is for you is driving from your house, to your work, and to an airport from both.
Knowing what you want from the neighborhood you live in would narrow down the suggestions to places that will be the least miserable traffic-wise. You'll be fine financially pretty much anywhere, especially if you're renting.
