Hi! Can anyone who works at a boutique firm or somewhere where there isn’t public lockstep comp give me insight into my raise? I formerly worked at a big law firm that had lockstep comp, but last year I lateraled to a small boutique firm. We just had evaluations, which went really great! I got my comp/bonus info but just don’t know how to interpret it since I don’t have a reference point like I used to have with lockstep. My raise was 6% and roughly $23k bonus. I just completed my fifth year.

I am an associate at an AM200 firm and was (IMO) very clear prior to accepting this role that I value work-life balance and wanted to try to keep work at night on the weekends to a minimal, but since February, it seems like it’s always something that requires my time as needed disregarding “business hours” or my personal schedule. Our managing partner says that we should, but all of the writing guides for litigators that I've read repeats the mantra "show, don't tell" and explain that most judges dread such words.
