Take the risk and join a startup while you have less responsibilities. D isn’t going to help you grow in those skills
I was in a pretty similar situation. Was at Deloitte, after 4 months I knew this wasn’t the place to grow my career. Got a good offer from a start up and left. I’ve been here for about a month and I’ve been learning a lot and actually enjoy working everyday. Company also values culture and teamwork a lot so everyone here is awesome to work with. Could tell during my interview rounds that this was the place for me.
You are below market value at 85k as a C at D when I started there I was making 96k first year before covid
Yeah I would also look other places, tech is offering incredible compensation! Better work life balance too.
Don’t take the offer stick it out at Deloitte Atleast for a year!
You ll have more leverage/experience once you hit a year and the title bump will also be useful .
IMO, working for a startup should always be done after 5-8 years of YOE since in the beginning of your career you need some solid brand names on your CV
Maybe try negotiating salary for the offer? A move doesn’t sound worth it for 5k. Maybe 15k? Definitely 25k.
I negotiated 15k more last year saying that the offer they made wasn’t enough to justify switching jobs and starting over
Series A doesn’t have cash to pay you salary. That’s what the equity is for.
I’d say you should be looking for another opportunity but I’m not sure this is your move. I feel like you could definitely either enhance the offer or find another offer with a larger compensation jump. If it comes down to you not having the skills at all and this is a pivot, a startup may not be wise since startups don’t tend to teach you directly - you kinda learn as you go in most cases and they expect you to be the driver of that learning and expect you to meet the outputs they want
Understood - my advice is the same. I think he should be looking to leave Deloitte. I’m not sure that this particular offer is the move for him. (I was also just offering a general note about startups)
