Hi, I'm leaving Citi in 2 months. It's hard to make this decision. I have an offer from a small startup. In citi, my previous experience was not considered and was reskilled to different tech which is the reason for change.I don't like to exit citi. As I like the company so much. But considering my current knowledge,I am in the middle of the sea.I am afraid now that the new company's offer would be revoked due to this recession?Or can I take back my resignation in citi before the last working day.Is this wise decision?

Just be prepared to wear multiple hats and be comfortable with going outside your comfort zone. If you are up for the challenge then go for it!
Thanks for the perspective!
You’re definitely more hands on and totally agree you wear multiple hats. The team you’re a part of is probably the most important part so if you haven’t dug into that with questions about the team, I probably would go back and ask.
Thanks! The team seems great & supportive which is a green flag for sure.
It's a great learning experience and will help you in the long run for any future roles (if this one doesn't work out)
Thanks! True, definitely a chance to beef up certain skills
If you feel like you want to become more prepared in brand strategy/ planning also check out section4 classes and Julian’s Cole’s strategy finishing school. Long time account person / wanna be planner and found both super helpful.
Oh that sounds incredibly helpful. Thank you! I’ll check them out
It will likely depend on how the agency is set up, but expect to do both high-level strat work and day-to-day account work entirely on your own, plus a lot of putting out fires and problem solving. So level-set your expectations - you can’t be everywhere at once and not everything will be perfect.
Thanks, this is helpful!
I've worked at a couple small agencies like this. What everyone else has said so far is good advice.
When you interview, ask folks about strategy. If the Creative Director, Owner, Group Account Director all say they help chip in with strategy, you'll be fine.
It's typically handled as a brainstorm or iterative process in my experience, as opposed to you handling all by yourself on an island.
Thanks! This is helpful insight
I truly thrived at agencies like this and now I’m confident doing both. Being close to the strategy will make you a better account person because you’ll really understand the why and therefore be able to anticipate your clients’ needs better.
The time management is the hardest part - make sure you’re able to carve out time to dig in for long stretches. It’s hard when you’re working on a high touch demanding account or multiple accounts.
Thanks for the perspective & tips - super helpful!
