McKinsey & Company I am joining the McKinsey & Company Boston office in late July and searching for housing in the meantime. If I could get some insight on the ratio of days in the office vs work from home that would be super helpful!
If I need to come into the office regularly I will try to find a place close by.

Will you be an Advisor or a CSR? Is it a development program?

Gotcha… compliance heavy, administrative heavy, operations heavy… the biggest thing that I look for (we do joint interviews with the advisory team) is competency around wealth management… the desire to help the team grow… if they said something to the effect of “the reason I want this role is because i believe that every high production advisor needs to spend more time sitting with clients and prospects bringing in the business.” I’ll usually sign off…
Best thing to do, is heavily research the interviewers. Most likely there will be 3-4 interviewers. You should have Tailored questions about their experiences with there firm as well as some thought provoking questions.
I also like to end interviews with a question like “what do you like to do for fun” this shows that your more than just work, you take an interest in them and their hobbies, I also like to say keep it as conversation based as possible.
You need to be able to sell yourself not just on your academic and professional qualifications but your humanity/personality.
The team can train you on the material, what they can’t train is your attitude. If it’s monotone and dull, you’re not gonna have much luck.
Since client reps are heavily focused on keeping the client happy and oversight into ensuring that the clients goals are met in a manner that does not cause harm (typically known as fiduciary responsibility), you should highlight how you can be personable, friendly while also showing you can deliver whenever it’s needed.
I recommend the below:
- be prepared to ask the interviewers intelligent questions
- know the industry that they are in/the product types
-show your personality on display (don’t be overbearing tho, there’s a fine line)
- be excited! Have a smile that’s as wide as possible, ensure the tone that your using highlights enthusiasm (this is typically forgotten and is one of the easiest ways to show excitement)
Best of luck!!
Fyi - i did all of these and it helped me get my dream role at Bloomberg with out direct prior experience.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share such detailed guidance.
I truly appreciate the effort you put into explaining what to expect and how I should prepare for the second-round interview.
Sounds like CSR. Be yourself. It’s an entry level role and they won’t be asking too many technical questions.
Thank you
