Hi everyone! I'm interested in learning more about career development opportunities within the legal field. While I've enjoyed my experience as a paralegal, I'm eager to explore roles that offer greater potential for advancement and earning growth. Has anyone moved from a paralegal role into a different legal area? I'd love to hear about your experiences, including the pros and cons you encountered. Thanks!

Depending on which area of law you’re in you can find quite a few free webinars. There’s also some out there about growing and goal setting.

From my experience, earning growth comes from years of experience. I hit the 6 figure mark after 8 years in a corporate paralegal role. I’m starting my 11th year of being a paralegal and recently went in-house. Base salary is $145k with a $30-35k bonus each year plus profit sharing and 401k match. Overall I’m happy being a paralegal and I don’t think I want to manage people or product lines at this point.

Everyone has a different perspective on this but would love to hear yours. Someone has debt ranging say 4-5% interest rates. Do you attack debt more then investing to move towards a debt free life or do you go after investments since they return historically above that then paying down closer towards retirement. I know the latter looks better on paper but what about the psychological factors of being debt free and the guaranteed return on interest savings.

I am visiting Moab and Arches National Park this year, and would love to learn more about biking in/around the park!

Are you able to ride the bikes on the roads throughout the park?
If so, are there places to lock up the bike at trailheads and/or parking lots to take in?
I haven't been to this national park yet, so I was curious how it compares to Zion for example, where it is easy to bike from "stop to stop" to view the scenery or do a hike!

Thank you!

Additional Posts in Paralegals

I’m interviewing with another firm next week. Has anyone made a switch like that before? How did you do it? I work in a small criminal firm now. Interview is with a same size/practice area firm.

Hey, does anyone work for Jacobowitz Newman Tversky? Would love to know more about the office and culture .

Currently a paralegal at a small start up financial services company been there for just a little over a year. I wear “multiple hats” but more recently I’ve done a lot of PM work and some BA work. My position title is changing soon but I’m wondering how helpful that would be for wanting to go into PM work at a tech company. Anyone have any career pivot advice? (Also I’m only 1.5yrs old in my career so I’m definitely still new, and I have previous experience as a project assistant).

Paralegals: My firm is looking for a paralegal, and I see the job posting advertising the salary as $65-$75k, with benefits. Is this a good salary for a paralegal (Greater LA area)? I’m not the decision maker, but it’s been a few weeks with very few applicants. I’m curious if there’s something hurting the firm in its search.

Where do you find the time to get everything done in the day when you have multiple partners, associates and equity partners that interrupt you and want things turned around immediately while simultaneously working on deadlines? I feel like I’m the only one that can’t manage a 70+ case load without letting someone down. I constantly have to say “Can I do this tomorrow?” Etc. I don’t even have time to bill on the clock. I work until 7p at least every night. Top 10 family law firm.

How do you know when it is time to move on. I am the only litigation paralegal billing over 2,500 a year consistently. Love the boss I work the most for but that person has grown distant.
