Hi everyone! Recently applied to a couple positions in Microsoft via referral and was wondering how long it typically takes to hear back? Before now I’ve been cold applying which felt like throwing my application down a black hole. Been trying to get a job there for awhile, any advice helps. Very interested about a communications role.

I applied directly without a referral and the whole process took 6 weeks from application to offer accepted

like

Bear in mind there is a hiring freeze at the moment. Process can take anywhere from 2 weeks to months. I was applying unsuccessfully for a year, networked with MSFT employees and once the right position opened up I got called up, interviewed and pocketed an offer within 2 weeks.

Don’t place all your hope on that one application but be consistent, network and keep applying.

Hirings will need VP approval but given they were posted recently there is a chance that they are at least in the loop already.

Unless you know someone who knows the hiring manager directly, a referral only makes the hole slightly less black looking.

Referral helps but it is not a for sure thing either. So one day to never

Job transition question: I recently accepted an offer for a new role with Merrill Lynch, the following day I was fired from my previous employer. I haven’t filled out the updated work history background check info yet. The reason for termination was due to performance expectations not being met. Should I reach out to my new employer and let them know that I’ve been terminated? Should I just put the termination update on the background check form and leave it at that? Wondering what I should do.

I am also responsible for sending out updates tracking new hires and upcoming leavers (aka I would be on this list if i decide to leave). If I am looking to leave my company, considering all of these things, how do I do it in the least awkward, most professional way possible? I want to put in at least a two week notice, but will continuing my work after that be weird?
