Hi Fishes,

I'm currently in talk of joining ZS Associates, with ~5 YE from industry (healthcare/life science) and 7+ YE in total. It sounds from the recruiter that it's
more likely to come in as an AC first, not a C unless proven otherwise during the interviews. Should I even consider this opportunity since it might be a 'step-down’ from my current position, and might not look as good in my resume? Is it true levels at ZS are higher than other firms, MBB, B4, T2?

Levels might not be higher salary-wise, but are higher responsibility-wise.

If you are not ready to have 3-4 projects at the same time, managing 2-3 people on each and driving a good chunk of thinking with little supervising from a Manager (maybe get 2-4 hours of their time weekly max), then C is going to be a stretch.

like

Great to know. C sounds more like manager-level work at other firms. Interesting how they set their levels differently

ZS has a flat hierarchy similar to MBB. 6 tiers from Associate to Principal/Partner. Some may say they came a level down while switching from Tech Consulting or B4 frims, but the R&R work differently. As an example a C at ZS can be equivalent to an M at B4

likefunny

Your CV should be the place where your position the seniority of your experience in the first place.

Zs has higher level in a sense that you will be expected to do more (i.e selling and multiple projects) but with lower TC than MBB.

With your background, I would try to aim directly at MBB or more of true strategy shop like LEK.

Thanks for the advice guys

Do consultants at ZS do actual work (doing analysis, building slides) or focus on managing people, driving strategic thinkings, and reviewing document?

like

It normally takes 2years + from AC to C. some people may say you could pull off accelerated promotion but that rarely happens these days and even that is only 6 months shorter. Zs is very conservative when it comes to promotion.

likehelpful

Also depends on how relevant your industry experience is.

Which track will you be joining, is it Business Technology, or BO, Or something else.?

If pay is good, then u can consider this opportunity.
AC in zs is equivalent to cons in big 4.
But you should push for cons. Atleast.
(I came one step down: s.con in Deloitte to cons. In zs).

C at ZS is considered equivalent to M at Big 4 Consulting. Don't go by titles, it's all about firm's org structure and R&R.

Please suggest how much can I expect from them? Also how is the hike cycle in Mindtree ?

I never even considered applying for faang companies because I figured my background/experience w small companies/ startups wouldn’t cut it (yet).
