Wilshire La Brea is a great option - I live here now. WeHo adjacent and walking distance from everything you’ll ever need.
Pro
I used to live off Wilshire and Dunsmuir not too far away. As convenient as everything is (how many targets do you need in a 2 mile radius?), I don’t consider the vibe as lively as a downtown or Weho. It’s quite dead in the area since the pandemic and protests.
Adding to the conversation a bit: I can’t personally speak to specific apartments, but based on OP’s comments about neighborhoods in WeHo I’d recommend being between Melrose and Fountain (N/S) and between La Cienega and Crescent Heights (E/W). Very walkable in the immediate vicinity , great bars and restaurants.
Also check out Silver Lake and Koreatown (very different feel from Chicago in terms of culture, but same great mix of food, nightlife, and walkability — and it has great public transit accessibility to get downtown as needed)
Sadly, can’t be helpful as I didn’t live in an apartment (family member owns a home there, gave me the guest house). However, I did visit a number of friends’ apartments in the area. Some really nice ones I saw were around the grove and up near Santa Monica Blvd; can’t remember the name but the latter were dope. Good luck!

None of the properties you mentioned are in WeHo. These are all in Hollywood.
I’d avoid all of these, unless you have a very high threshold for dealing with homeless folks - many of whom can be aggressive.
What’s your rental budget?

Based on these responses, it seems like the Essex holding company is legit.
Yea my friend pays 2700 for a studio that’s basically on the freeway. Their properties are nice but definitely overpriced
I wanted to update this group and say thank you again for the help! We just signed a lease at The Dylan for 9/1! Excited for the move!

Congrats on the new role. Enjoy West Hollywood and the rest of LA, let us know if you need additional recs on things to do, food to eat, etc.
