Ah that’s so tough - I’m sorry you’re dealing with this.
You might be struggling to find exec/admin positions in entertainment as the industry is oversubscribed with people who want to work in ANY job in that industry, and often are overqualified for the type of work they do.
What I’d suggest is looking for roles aligned to work where you (1) have experience, such as account management (highly transferable between industries, btw) OR (2) have demonstrable stills, such as your design work.
On the latter, if you don’t have already, get a digital portfolio going so you can send it out to companies who hire in that space (this can be anything from publishing to advertising to digital content companies).
Good luck and hang in there!
Thank you for the advice ❤️ much appreciated.
All I have seen so far for account management ends up going back to sales... Which I'm trying to get out of. 😪
I'm an animation and art history major, so I'm slowly trying to get into that industry, so I was hoping to start out as an admin/assistant and learn the ropes from there up.
I do have a portfolio and I have been applying to marketing/graphic design or social media management roles - as I took on all the marketing responsibilities for my current job on top of working sales and when I asked for a raise things went downhill REALLY fast. But I have been coming across the same issue. Just gotta keep looking in the meantime.
But thank you so much for the advice 🫶🏻 will definitely keep it in mind!

If you just need to get out of the toxic environment. Project coordinators are roles that come up periodically with contracting firms like TekSystems. (If you are in the US).
Have you built up a digital portfolio and using social media to build your brand? Even if you are not actively doing your own separate business, this is something that could attract more potential openings.
I do have a digital portfolio (but on a PDF). I'm starting to plan on building my personal brand + pursue a few passion projects in the meantime to get me out of the dark place my head is at.
I wasn't aware about the project coordinator roles, I'll look into it, thank you ❤️
I'm trying to transition to an executive/admin assistant position somewhere in the entertainment/animation industry, but I keep getting the automated emails that they have gone with someone with experience/background more aligned to what they are looking for.
Is there anyone who did a similar transition (or on charge of hiring for these roles) who could share some advice on things to look out for or that maybe I should be looking out for to make the transition easier?
Thank you ❤️
use ChatGPT to edit your resume post job description into ChatGPT & ask it to pick out “five most important skills” then incoporate those into your resume
The best advice I can give you is to stay local with your applications, most people have big dreams of getting a job to move to a huge city for a new start but that prevents them from seeing the amazing jobs around them, plus others are so starstruck by the remote/far jobs that you’ll most likely always be the number one pick for the desired local job! Also make chatgpt your best friend, you’d be amazed at how many more job offers you get by utilizing it on your resume, also DO NOT put your graduation year on your resume, as a 26 yo f they will use your graduation year to gauge your experience and which will hurt you since you are young. Lastly I believe you mentioned that you do design use Pinterest, Behance and dribbble to see what others are doing so that you can gain inspiration and keep your portfolio current, that portfolio is everything to us designers and can really make or break you. The resume is important to of course, but the portfolio shows what you can really bring to the team. Use these tips and you’ll find work! Hang in there, it took me almost a year to get my current position and you’ll find one you love too.
