One small tip/caution: Something I experienced at a past agency was them continually saying “working from home is not replacement for childcare” and therefore they didn’t allow it and rather forced me to put my child into a daycare center to meet the mandated in-office days. so definitely let them know you’ll have a nanny or some sort of help there to be primary care for your child although you’ll still be at home for work.
I work from home full time and have a 20 month old. Trust me…it is impossible to properly do your job without childcare. I lasted about a month before putting her in daycare. The days she is home sick are impossible.
Agree: do not make it about the child. They want you working not doing childcare. So be sure they know you have childcare. Make it about your performance and only that. “I find I get in x more hours a day on average from home,” or “when working on y, I realized I was able to be super efficient at home when doing z-I could really dial in and focus and finished in 1/2 the time and was able to move the timeline up,” or “I have noticed that on Thursdays with status calls I’m not digging in on project work until after lunch- while when I wfh last Thursday I was able to get x, y and z started before the calls and the teams were really more active and we finished by eod.” Stuff like that.
Agreed with this! Also, you can share that it reduces your commute and chat time at work with assist with being more productive.
Thank you both. You’re right about it really being impossible to sustain without a nanny supporting the setup.
