Hi 🐠, need your help considering two career options. Have been a management consultant at a B4 firm ~4 years (promoted to SC level a couple years ago). Would a move to either Guidehouse or Slalom be career enhancing or career limiting? (Long term, will having either company on my resume be a + or - for potential future opportunities down the road?) both teams seem like good people & good culture from what I can tell, so considering additional factors to weigh which is the best choice. TIA!!

If both offer roughly the same salary, do you think one may be better than the other? (GH vs slalom)

Are you in advisory or management? Your title says otherwise.

I was an advisory C at B4 and was hired as SC at GH in management consulting. IMHO it was worth pivoting direction. And GH and Slalom aren’t exactly small name boutiques so no I don’t think it’s career limiting. It won’t be too difficult to get back to B4 if you had to, or exit to industry. Lots of ex-B4 at GH.

You’ll want to come in as a manager though. At lest show career progression.

At my firm management consulting sits within the Advisory arm (the 3 main groups are tax, audit, and advisory). Not sure how fishbowl chose my title tbh.

Have you preferred GH to B4? What are the main differences you‘ve experienced?

Also that’s a good point about career progression. At Slalom I believe most people have the “Consultant” title forever unless they transition to a leadership position. Do you think a static title is problematic?

I was wondering if the review course “CPE Self Study Course” for the CFF was enough preparation to study and pass the CFF exam. The CFE review course was enough and like if you get a question wrong it explains it well so that when it comes up in a different way in the real exam you can still get it. But when I saw the outline for the CFF material and there seems to be a lot of topics so I was wondering if the review course was sufficient considering this exam is also multiple choice. Thanks!

Would folks be open to participating in a “PM Office Hours” style discussion?

Flexible on format etc; here’s what I’m thinking:
- We choose a particular problem for a week (/month?) which a lot (all?) PMs face regularly. E.g. “stakeholder mapping”
- we have a “Fishbowl Live event” where we (practicing PMs) can discuss what we have seen work / not work/ brainstorm solutions for someone with a specific problem.

The idea is to provide multiple peer perspectives, and hopefully something useful

I have a new employee that started last Monday, unfortunately it’s not going to work out. Long story, but we’re fairly certain the individual is using Meth and appears to have started/restarted fairly recently. I work with physicians, so it’s a consensus. We have to terminate employment, but what ethical obligation do we have? Two young children at home and no spouse. This is weighing heavily on us.

I’ve been unsustainably swamped for months. Hi Fishes,

I was offered RSUs for the first time as part of my compensation. I think I understand the concept as such but there are a few intricacies I was looking to clarify. Could anyone let me know if my grant date is 9th nov, 2022 and vesting period is 1 year, will I get RSUs allotted at the price of stock on grant date or vest date (in this case 9th nov, 2023)? Happy to connect in DMs as well

Thank you for your time!

Yet another friend/colleague got engaged this weekend. It’s become impossible to celebrate people’s relationships. I’m a POC woman and I’ve been single since coming to the US 10 yrs ago. A handful of men have been interested but they were not Christian or back in my country. So many childless, single women in my church and I’m terrified I’ll be them soon. My non-Christian family doesn’t understand why I’ll only date Christians, or the dating scene in big cities, so they put pressure on me
