Pretty similarly but at a way smaller scale, it’s a really tough market oht there. I’m fortunate to be searching while still employed, but out of the 30 applications I’ve sent out I’ve gotten 2 interview strings, and at one company made it to stage 4/5 of interviewing.
I think due to the saturation and quality of senior level folks on the market rn, companies are spoiled with choice and can really pick exactly what their team needs. That’s my assumption at least, definitely networking plays a huge part in this too.
Back when I graduated college it seemed like companies were willing to hire just based on potential. Early in my career I had multiple local companies reach out to me for interviews and now those same companies haven't even given me the time of day if I haven't already worked in their industry. The bar is so much higher now.
I’ve been coming to terms with what is next for myself. Trying to cast a wider net and look at it as not an end to my career path, but a scenic route.
I'm experiencing a bit of ego death. I've been interested in design since my youth and I even thought to myself I could do this until I retire. What I thought would be my life's work I'm not even sure will last another 10 years.
I’m in a similar position, i do have a job but it’s very part time, not getting paid good. I’ve been applying to places for over 6 months now, barely got any interviews. Atp i’m applying to other positions as well. Hopefully the job market gets better soon.
That's actually pretty good. I was laid off in October and have had 0 interviews, including recruiter screens, even though I've gotten 3 referrals (overall applied to over 120 jobs). It's rough.
Essentially, I have put money aside for a food truck. People gotta eat 😄
It's just not viable anymore. Because of AI and all these no code platforms, people think they know better - about products and about user experiences. Even with the whole "companies are looking for problem solvers, not just pretty designs" sentiment, the people who are already there will more than likely prefer their own opinions and thus 'solutions'.
I'm putting together a menu for burgers, hotdogs and fries. Maybe I can get away with selling food before the robots from Boston Dynamics get to it 🤔
Brutal. I have 13 years experience, from PD to Senior to Lead and I've already applied to almost 250 roles. 4 interviews so far, I have found that the hiring companies are looking for EXACTLY the skills and experience described in their role description. A close fit just doesn't cut it any more, or if you're under or over qualified, forget about it.
