I have two years of automotive/aerospace manufacturing experience and am looking for new opportunities. I recently applied to a Solution Engineer - Commercial Manufacturing, Automotive, Energy (MAE) role at Salesforce, and it sounds like a great fit. It varies. There needs to be presales and post sales/professional services at most companies. This is getting blurred with forward deployed engineers or FDEs though.
At Salesforce the presales roles are called “solution engineers” with some variation. Post-sales functional consultants are called Solution Consultant and then eventually Solution Architect once they hit a certain level. At ServiceNow the presales team is called Solution Consultant. Look up folks on LinkedIn with the job title to truly understand what this role does in a specific company.
At Snowflake we used to be called "Sales Engineers" but this year we were renamed "Solution Engineers" to better align with how the cloud providers name this type of role. Basically an account team at most companies are an AE and an SE (the technical half of the team). To me the titles sales engineer / solution engineer / presales consultant are generally equivalent.
