How did you feel walking into the biggest pitch of your life? How'd you calm your nerves?

Oh I was SO nervous. I still get nervous. Deep breaths, lots of practice and now that I know the ins and outs of my product so thoroughly, I’m not scared about the potential questions they may ask!

like

I always try to take some deep breaths to calm myself down. I also practice my pitch a ton before I have to give it for real, so I'll remind myself of all the work that I've done to be prepared for this moment and succeed.

like

Nervous! Try practicing points instead of a line by line pitch. Put a big smile on your face and tell yourself that it’s okay if you don’t get it, but you are going to get it.

like

Oh I get nervous anytime I have a big pitch but I remind myself that I am a bad B and I have got this. I go over it line by line until someone could wake me up in the middle of the night and I could start at any place in the pitch and nail it. You have got this OP!

Weed gummies.

Go in there like you have nothing to lose. Imagine yourself having multiple job offers already lined up and that if this one doesn’t work out you have plan B C D E F G …. After all, they need you (otherwise they wouldn’t be interviewing you) as much as you need them, the field is level.

I always make sure im well prepared and well rested before doing such presentations

Practice your pitch out loud! Saying it to others really helps you get ready.

You are there because the buyers are interested in the product, and your job is to make them feel comfortable with “you.” Yes, knowledge of the product is 100%, but knowing who they will deal with helps their decision-making. Be relaxed knowing they want you there.

How do y’all deal with people at work who are stuck on stupid? Like they have no idea what they’re talking about and they REFUSE to learn. It’s like they have a god complex or something even with proof, maybe bc of their tenure at the company? Even if there’s valid data backing up that they’re wrong. Maybe it’s bc I’m a type 8 enneagram, but it frustrates the hell out of me!
So any advice would be lovely :)

How flexible is Deloitte with the start date because of H1b processing time? I signed the offer mid-may for July 12 because it seemed realistic enough for premium H1b transfer. But the lawyers seem slower than what I was used to and July 12 does not seem likely. Is this going to be a problem?

A question for VCs: I’m currently a VC analyst. I want to eventually come back to the VC industry and perhaps become a partner (if possible). However, there’s an opportunity to work at an Endowment Fund (Harvard/Yale/Stanford level). Would you recommend me to spend the next 3-4 years doing something that’s not directly VC related? Would it be hard for me to come back to the VC industry with this experience? Why or why not? Thank you so much for your time and help!

Additional Posts in Sales

My company covers in depth results each week, including meetings set/attended, wins, revenue, retention etc. I feel as if evaluating in such depth is detrimental to the psyche, as you never get to “ride the high.” In addition, some weeks are simply slower than others, and it’s not always representative of what the results at the end of the period or quarter will be. Is this not a big deal, and I’m I placing too much importance on it? Or is it beneficial to review results less frequently?

Anyone go from SaaS / licensing sales to services (strategy & implementation) sales?

I'm thinking of moving from large cap tech to large cap consultancy firm to help build the resume and round out my experience. I enjoy and do well in licensing, but I'm fairly young in my career (<6 years) and received a great offer to make the move.

Big fan of the org and team I'll be joining as well.

Thanks!!

So I just started a new job in sales (B2B specifically). All my life I’ve been in blue collar jobs, military, then construction work ect. I don’t have much money saved to get myself my own business cards as I’m sure they are important to have, I’ve got all the info that I need to go out and start selling. I guess what I’m looking for is just tips on how you guys were successful walking into a whole new arena if that makes sense?

Been a coach at the collegiate level for 6 years. Make a $65k salary. Want to leave coaching and break into sales/marketing/recruiting/consulting. I have ample leadership and recruiting experience with a strong work ethic.

I’m assuming I’m going to have to take a pay cut and start toward bottom of totem pole. Any recommendations/advice on roles to apply for since I’m new to the field? Would like to be in tech if possible in Charlotte, NC or remote.

I recently had an initial interview for a technical recruiter position. The guy on the phone stated that this is not a 9-5 job and long hours are expected. I proceed to ask how much PTO is offered and he said that is not recommend within the first 6 months of working and the harder you work the more PTO you receive. From that conversation, I saw instant red flags. Any thoughts?
