I would email the partner you work closest with or report to and ask when they have time for a brief phone call today. Let them know over the phone, thank them for the opportunity, and then let them know that you will prepare exit memos and reach out to HR. Send an email outlining the work you have pending to that partner, let HR know, and give a 2 week notice (at least). Good luck!
Follow up- I followed the steps from A1 and A2 and it went fine. I’m preparing formal memos this week and everyone appreciated how I handled it. Thanks everyone!
I’m in a different role than you are of course, but I emailed my managing partner directly to explain the situation and give notice. Then emailed my manager and team to bring them up to speed, then did the same with HR. After that the partner and my team had a zoom call to discuss next steps and start interviewing for a replacement
When I left my last firm, I submitted a written resignation via email to the managing shareholders of the firm. They then set up an exit interview with me which I supposed will probably occur via Zoom in your case.
