It depends. If you can get away with it, you don’t deal with these sorts of people. If you can’t get away with it (e.g., senior person in your group), you swallow your pride and do the work and remind yourself that they’re a big loser than you by virtue of being in this job longer than you.
We’re the same class year - they lateraled recently - that’s why it’s pissing me off so much and why I am having so much difficulty figuring out how to handle it diplomatically lol
Almost all of this is bad, but it is normal and expected for associates to dictate workstreams to their more junior colleagues and sometimes even to people their own level on a team. Partners expect seniors (and mids in many cases) to delegate work effectively and to manage the team’s workflows so they don’t have to.
So we’re the same year, otherwise of course I wouldn’t mind the work stream aspect. They (try to) do it to seniors as well which is why their behavior is so irritating to me and others.
Pit them against each other
I’m dealing with this but from a few juniors hailing from specific boutiques. Send help.

The same way you deal with partners who are jerks - don’t work with them.
