ZT1, PMM1, its not just women...black women/black people have been struggling since forever on what hairstyle is "professional" . Cornrows, dreads, braids have personally been taken out when in "vacation mode" to have my hair straightened/relax to be "work ready" on Monday. As sad/unfortunate as this its been alot of people's reality for their entire career. So please have some empathy/compassion if its not a struggle youve had to personally endure...
Only you have to live with yourself outside of work and any employer deciding your career trajectory based on long or short hair isn’t an employer that has your best interests in mind. Wear what makes you feel like yourself as long as it’s work appropriate.
Why are women expected to put “more effort” in?
I look how i look (makeup & hair always the same)...the only difference is sometimes I'll opt for glasses if I have an important presentation. Studies show people assume people who wear glasses are smart..so it doesn't hurt since I'm blind as a bat anyways...
I call myself a Librarian. You can find me with a pencil sticking out of my bun and/or sneakers on my feet.
Find a look that works for you and own it.
You show up differently when YOU feel good about yourself. And feeling good about yourself doesn’t suddenly makes you smarter, but it does make you more confident, and personable.
Your look can be a thing when you join a company or team and feel like you don’t match their “aesthetic” but after a while people get used to you and it’s no longer a big deal.
Being pretty and smart is also VERY different from being pretty and “looking smart”.
In a professional setting setting the former is ideal and the latter is not sustainable. As a cringy human I crossed paths with once said, “The office “bimbo isn’t always a 10”. Don’t be the office bimbo.😉

…what? There isn’t an either / or option to just be pretty or smart. Obviously a blow out and more makeup can help anymore come across more presentable, it’s not just being “prettier” it’s just that people can tell you put more effort into yourself than a ponytail and no makeup.
I’m not sure why your hair would make you feel different in your career and personal life but I hope you know intelligence is beautiful and looks aren’t forever.
Coach
Sure but also plenty of environments now that embrace your preference in hair style or color, tattoos and visible piercings, etc.
If you’re in an environment where pretty people are getting promoted over the competent then you’re in a toxic work environment and there’s plenty of industries that value intellect over beauty.
lol wow I would love to have this “problem”
Omg
Some days we like glam and other days we prefer casual. Either way you’re beautiful and smart just the way you are.
