By being insubordinate yourself.
I pull them to the side once everyone is settled and have started their assignments. I find doing so established a relationship with the students and they remember that.
Maybe I am misunderstanding, but insubordination is related to an employee/employer relationship. I never used this term with students.
Hmmmm…ok.

I think it depends a lot on specifics
This can quickly devolve into an "I win, you lose" situation, and that rarely goes well.
If possible, look for an "everybody wins" resolution. It's not always possible, but if you look for it, you have a much better chance of finding it.
Ask the student what they absolutely need out of this situation. Decide if you can live with that, and/or what you need first or in return. While it's best not to cede your authority to an admin, do so if that's the only way through that you can see. They get paid to deal with students who won't comply and won't compromise. You don't.
By staff ? Some are crazy and disrespectful
Honestly I just try to be an adult and have a conversation with them. Sometimes it works and other times it doesn't. Some adults are just like that I have learned.
hit them over the head with a Meter Stick...I wish
If the student is not a danger to themselves or others or actively preventing others from learning (I.E. if they’re refusing to complete work and sitting with their head down), I will try prompting them a couple of times and then let them know that I’m disappointed they are choosing not to participate, and that I will be documenting the incident for their parents and school admin. Then I ignore the student and focus on my students who are ready to learn instead. Frequent repeats of this behavior and I will refer the student to the school counselor.
If they are disrupting the class and refuse to be redirected I call behavior coaches/admin.
You're gonna need to be more specific than that. Are yoy talking about staff or students?
I’m speaking about staff. I am a center Director in a daycare. Recently a staff member was extremely disrespectful towards me by shouting I recently wrote her up the next day following the incident of course she stated she was going to the CEO I deal with a lot of staff who are really odd .
There is no really a hard and fast rule for this. It depends on the circumstances. Please give us a little more context to understand the situation.
The term insubordination is quite extreme, when applied to preschool kids, no? if you are asking about the students though, timeout corners usually work.
Always by remaining calm and professional. Insubordination is essentially a power struggle and those can end badly if you don't keep your head, whether you're dealing with a child or adult. The rest varies by situation, but I TRY to remain calm, not take it personally, and stay on topic. Also I try to keep the end goal in sight - is there something I need this person to do and how can I get them there? Or am I just bristling because I don't think they are treating me with the proper deference? Is there a way to show grace and still meet your goal? Do you feel you have to "win" to save face? Is there an audience and can you remove it to keep from escalating?
