How do you maintain a close relationship with your wife once kids enter the picture so when they eventually leave the nest you don’t feel like you’re living with a stranger? People suggest frequent date nights but even then we end up spending ~50% of the time talking about the kids. Love my wife, so want to be more thoughtful about this.

My SO is an alcohol abuser but has said he knows it’s a problem and would like to cut back or quit. Any suggestions or advice in how to help and cope with this. He becomes a different person when he drinks. I want to support him but don’t know how or where to start.

Stupid Question- We have been thinking for IVF and trying to understand with this process, is there any difference in the health and life of the child as compared to a child born without IVF. I did ask this with our doctor and he said casually its all same. This is not to question any doctor but just to really understand what is going to be different with the kid. How do I figure out spending with my SO? Initially I was paying for 90% of stuff (no actual bills, just going out). I talked to her and said we need to be more even. She was never proactive. She kind of got offended but we ended on a good note to split things. It went well for a couple weeks but now it's back to normal. She never takes out her card and only venmos me if I send her the request. She lets Venmos sit for weeks before paying them. I still let a lot of things slide.

Husband is a multi sport coach and gone a lot in season, I work in corp banking. Thinking about getting a travel trailer since I camp alone with the kids a lot in the summer, spring and fall for quick weekends. Does anybody do this where you take, maybe 1 day, to create multiple 3 day weekends scattered throughout the year for little trips instead of taking vaca in longer stints? A relative is raising a teenage son with her ex-husband. They have joint physical custody. The ex-husband has re-married. When the son is in his care, he often leaves the son at home in California with his (new) wife when he travels for work (which is often). The relative wants her ex-husband to leave their son in her care when he travels out of town but the ex-husband disagrees. So we have done, Ask the recruiter, fireside chats w executive mgmt, events w Naaap and ascend. With everyone still working from home ppl are not engaged and it is harder for networking.

I'm lateraling to another firm because frankly I think the management of this one is terrible, but the people (and individual partners) I actually work with are awesome. I've only been here for about 18 months, so I imagine that short time frame will make it extra awkward 😬
