No shame in saying, “Let me check with the team and see what we can do to help.” Either way, the team should be aware of the things client is asking for, even casually, because there may be something else/ conversations happening that you are unaware of.
^The stuff you’re unaware of is a really important point!
Talk to your Partner. This depends on the client / engagement / relationship / history, etc.
“I don’t want to commit to anything without running it by [partner] first. We’ll reach back out [however you need to phrase it]!”
This is a scope conversation. Doing work you don't bill for hurts your employer’s revenue. Kick it up to the folks managing scope. This is about honest business at some point.
