Alright EY2, I love a good KPMG joke as much as the next guy (and their rep does make them a tad bit less desirable), but they deserve the full level of respect of the Big 4 haha
Not if they can still bring in that bread 🍞
They would move on to another firm, just like any other employee. If the ethical reason was public knowledge, or caused loss of licensure, they would have to look around a lot harder and longer.
I saw this situation, they just dipped from public accounting and became a CFO of a private firm. Of course he resigned instead of got fired but yeah they just move on.
Depends how serious and public the ethical issue was. If it was publicly known or they lost their license or were censured then it would be much more difficult. If only their current employer knew, they could likely land a spot in another firm.
True. Especially outside the biggest cities, I think they may have to relocate if they were to manage to get another partner position. The partnerships all do pretty extensive background checks as well, so anything that resulted in a lawsuit or criminal charges would certainly become known as well and would be very difficult to overcome. They'd have to be bringing something particularly great to the table to still be hired.
Where do you think most partners at smaller firms (KPMG down) come from. For the most part couldn’t make it at dt, EY, pwc. In my geo 2 SM’s left one now at GT an some at kpmg. And one partner ‘canned’ and at bdo
🙄
A first year partner in my office got fired for an ethical issue and is now a partner at a small local firm. Wouldn’t say it was career ending but definitely career altering.
Hypothetical: If you were a partner with the firm less than 2 years and you got fired today? Would you be totally screwed?
You call up an executive head hunting firm or any of your buddies and pick up a director or above job. Maybe join some corporate board audit committee.
Firms won’t announce why they fired you to the world. They want you to hire them in the future. The strong preference is for a quiet mutually agreed exit.
EY2 what service line and geography?
