I rotated in TAS and FAAS. Pretty easy transfer process after that if it goes well. Downside is you usually do another audit busy season. Probably easier to rotate then just go to another firm in that role.
How are the expectations and work in TAS / FAAS ? I’m interested in leaving audit to do advisory but still lacking information
Demand is strong now on both Audit and Tax sides, so you should be able to transfer or at least try it out. The firms realize if you want to make a switch, they either let you or you will just hop to another firm that will.
However, your time may be better spend right now focusing on the CPA. Better to have that out of the way, you have plenty of time to explore alternatives.
Of course you should talk to your leadership first...
TAS is just all-around better, why wouldn’t you take the rotation? Worst case scenario you go back to auditing...
At KPMG they’ve waived the return to audit requirement due to need for people, but it still seems to be a requirement to do the rotation instead of being able to transfer immediately.
OP can you share more info on this opportunity? Who approached you or who did you talk to? Was it a partner in the TAS group?
You're going to want to let your audit team and audit partner(s) know of your intentions and give them time to staff engagements if you plan to make a full time transfer. You also should let your coach/counselor know as well.
As far as doing the rotation. I 100% recommend you doing it as this will give you a leg up once you're ready to do the full transfer. However, the CPA is also extremely important. How many exams do you have left? I agree with the other poster who said it's more important to get your CPA as soon as possible. If you can do both the rotation and exams, then go for it.
OP go for it and don't look back. TAS is 100x better than audit as far as the type of work you do and opportunities. Reach out to your team and let them know this is happening as usually the firm needs to clear it through the audit group. Make sure to be professional and don't burn any bridges. There's a crazy volume of deals at the moment so all the firms are hurting for people. This kind of opportunity might be once in a lifetime as far as timing goes. Typically you'd have to be a senior to even be considered.
How are the hours in TAS / FAAS compared to auditing all year ?
Ok but how long do you work like this ? I ended up having these hours as well in audit and working almost every weekend. In summary, I had a busy season for 5 months (Jan - May) and a busy Q3 for 2 months (October - Dec) so I was thinking at this point why not just try FAAS / TS. Especially that they wanna put me again on a big client from august until December and will work overtime because they have deadlines every month so I really lost interest in audit at this point... In summary I’m busy all year.
