FactSet hi, does anyone have experience working for FactSet in Norwalk, CT? How is the culture like? Are they promoting from within? Turnover? Benefits? Pay? Work-life balance? I’m applying for an investment type role and taking a job with them would require relocation. Anything that you can share is much appreciated, thanks!

It doesn’t. Work smarter, not longer.
It doesn’t improve you if it happens regularly. But if there is one week when the team needs to come together to resolve a critical issue / deadline / fire drill and work overtime, that should be seen as an opportunity to learn how to stand by each other to accomplish something!
Having the discipline to do it when needed can be useful. Doing it excessively or unnecessarily does not. Having a balanced life is more likely to improve you as a person.
Trick question. It doesn’t!
It just means you’re working too much and your time is not valuable
It doesn’t, the productivity drop off after a certain point is dramatic
It takes personal life away. So all you will be left is professional life.
It means you’re prioritizing the wrong things (unless you truly do live to work)
A dead consultant is a good consultant. 80 hours will kill you
This is mathematically not possible. I have been doing this long enough and worked with a lot of consultants and haven’t seen a single person do this sustainably. Sure, can you do this for a week, on a high-burn diligence deal (or pick your project)? Yes. For two weeks - possible, but highly doubt it. More than that - impossible.
There’s only 168 hours a week and only geniuses such as in the arts, sports, or similar where their entire life is that can accomplish 80 hours a week (or more). None of them are in consulting (that I know of). So let’s get real and not make ourselves believe we are capable of 80h/week of “productive” work on a “sustainable “ basis. Counting time does not equal making that time count. What we should strive for is to make sure we get an hour’s output for every hour of work we put in.
It also might mean that we have this project because we are cheap. Our leaders said we didn’t need resources to get the work done, but we actually need more help. That’s tricky. It’s a balance between winning a contract and being honest about the level of effort that will be needed
It doesn’t. Period
Personally I’ve found that it’s possible to be productive if it’s different things. Working 50 hours but doing 20 hours extra either studying or learning something new is feasible. Not always heathy in the long run and in some moderation, but it works
Hopefully it puts more $$ in your pocket
^ agree: it helps reveal where you want to spend your time and what your priorities are. It’s like when I worked in a factory it taught me that I never want to work in a factory.
Gives you motivation to leave and or/develop passive income so you don’t work again
You need a great support structure in place to do this sustainably. For those of us without chauffeurs, cleaning staff, nannies, etc... that’s hard to sustain before our lives quickly fall apart. It’s probably unsustainable even if you do - for a relevant case study I would refer you to Elon Musk’s recent behavior/twitter account.
For a typical week that might include Monday to Friday 7am to 8pm, to get you to 65 hours. That means another 7.5 hours each Saturday and Sunday. I can only think of a few weeks where I’ve had to do that in my so far ten year career.
