It was announced last year, and anyone employed at 12/31/2023 got 1 year of service credit and a 10% contribution prorated (salary from September to December).
There's a vesting schedule where you get 20% after 2 years - then another 20% each year after. So fully vested after 6 years.
The stock gets priced from a valuation once a year. The first valuation is expected at the end this summer, so that's still open as well.
We haven't gotten any statements yet and those will come once the valuation is finalized.
I personally don't how to feel until I have accounts set up and you can see money in it. We have been told that this 10% yearly contribution will be in addition to normal raises and bonuses.
We'll find out in the next few weeks when our comp adjustments are communicated to us (since our comp changes 8/1 and bonuses are in the 8/15 paycheck).
The only downside was that a lot of younger partners left once we did this transaction. I've seen a lot of great partners leave. We have brought in other partners to try to replace them, so to be determined how that affects culture and audit quality.
Honestly, a lot of questions to me still that we might not know for a few years until:
1) everyone who wants to leave does and the firm does it best to try to replace them. And we learn how that affects audit quality and culture.
2) People start getting ESOP statements and seeing the amounts. This coupled with knowing comp and bonus figures and if the ESOP was truly "in addition"
We haven’t gotten the valuation yet for this first year so neutral from me. There’s been a ton of cost-cutting which may or may not correlated. Long-term if you want to stay for 10+ years I’d think it’s a good thing. Note the 6-year vesting period.
It’s an E-FLOP
Poor raises, less benefits in order to make up for the $200M in interest payments per year.
It was poor raises before the ESOP was officially announced, and yes. There’s a whole thread on them in the BDO bowl
Whatever and whoever is being cut ever since ESOP
Overall it’s a good thing. People just like to complain about anything they can online but for those looking to stay awhile or getting their careers started, it’s a good addition to the comp package. And it’s a nice little recruiting tool. Not making it more than it is, but good move by BDO
I did and make over 10k more than people at my level with half the busy season hours 😂
We’re supposed to hear officially next month. Jury is out so far as to whether is a good thing or not as it’s too early to know.
$64
Salaries/bonuses in my group seem at market, ESOP not part of that. Statements are supposedly coming out later this summer for ESOP allocation. Way better than you'd get from a PE-backed firm.
Just trying to wait patiently and see what will come from the valuation
