How long can you be a senior without a CPA in public? They can’t keep giving you raises so you become a six fig senior right?

A life long senior sounds bad, but it isn’t as bad as you think. You have consistent responsibilities and know what you should be doing after a few years. Just don’t get jealous of younger people telling you what to do.

It depends. There is a senior in our office who made senior in 2002. She has no desire to move up. She’s at the top end of the band. Normally one one reaches the top end of band since promotion (other than directors possibly) so raises don’t happen unless band moves. But she’s happy what she makes and firm is happy since the quality is much higher. Not all groups or firms allow this though.

Wow I wish they let me do this

I don’t see any big firms keeping a senior for more than 5 years unless they had a major career change during that timeframe (shift from tax to audit or vv, etc). Especially with the historically low turnover rate we are experiencing.

like

No limit but yes raises would slow down/end eventually basically more of a cost of living adjustment.

like

That’s tough but possible. If you are a six figure senior, however, then you likely won’t have the TIME to get your CPA now. Catch-22? 🤷🏻‍♂️

I think the new model in public you can more so move up at your own pace. There is a salary cap at the senior associate level though.

It honestly depends. Some firms/teams are so pressed for bodies/people with experience that they won’t fire those seniors without a CPA. If a team ever gets too senior-heavy, and/or there are calls to reduce staffing (like we’re seeing with the pandemic), I suspect those seniors will be on the shortlist to be sent packing.

Am I crazy? I thought all seniors salary reach 6 figure?

Sorry EY2. A 90k salary isn’t that bad by any means though you will reach 100k soon hahaha

Do I offer 12.5k so we can hopefully meet in the middle at 15k? Is that how the settlement game is played? Seems dumb we can’t just say let’s meet in the middle now and be done with this. (I’m a first year, first time negotiating a settlement on my own and I don’t want to screw this up!)
