How long do you think it took you to fully “ramp back up” after maternity leave to where you were before? Did you ever?

Been back for just shy of one month and don’t see how I’ll ever work my way back to my old baseline, which wasn’t even anything crazy (averaged 1900 a year split pretty evenly). It is hard to even put in a 6-7 hour (billed) day. 😩

I’ve been back about 4 months and I’m still pretty slow, but sadly the “slow” hours still feel like a full day’s work. It’s like, even though my hours do not reflect being fully “maxed out” I am seriously maxed out as a human being. I can’t do any more than I’m doing, and yet I think everyone expects me to. Solidarity. The silver lining: my baby and toddler were babbling, singing, and giggling on the way to daycare this morning- and before bed my toddler smiled at me as I snuggled him to sleep and told me, “I am happy mommy.” And that’s my reminder that happy, healthy babies are why I’m so tired. Keep it up- the people who matter most appreciate your work and sacrifice, even if they can’t quite articulate it yet <3

If you figure it out, let me know. I’ve been back for 6 months and my brain feels back to normal, but the actual billables are tough. It’s like it takes 2x the effort to actually bill 8-10 hours because I’m taking care of my baby in the mornings and evenings

like

I’m still waiting for my brain to fully come back on. We still wake up 1–3x a night which doesn’t help. But totally agree… I feel twice as tanked and look at my time at the end of the day and I’m like wow, this would have had me panicking before lol. Literally once I hit 5 billed hours now I am seriously so exhausted. And packing it up to go home and clock on to take care of baby and then get back on to try to eke out another hour or two… it’s so awful 😭

like

I didn’t. I went on a reduced schedule and it’s been the best thing for me and my fam. And that’s even with my firm having a formal ramp up policy where hours are prorated the first 16 weeks back from leave.

like

Yeah it’s pretty awesome and one of the reasons I’m staying until I’m done having kids haha. They do 60% first 4 weeks back, 70% second 4 weeks and so forth.

My baby just turned 1 and I've been at a new firm for 6 months and feel like I could be back at pre baby pace if I wanted, but I would rather spend extra time with her or with my husband after she's asleep. I do the typical thing of logging back on after bedtime, so it's a question of how much do I want to catch up on hours at the end of a long day.

Someone please tell me that I can get a rear facing child seat in the back of a mustang… otherwise it looks like I’ll have to buy a new family car to drive the little one around (wife doesn’t drive unfortunately).

Could be a good excuse to get a Taycan but was hoping I could just stick with my mustang. We said next car will be an EV didn’t think it would be so soon though!

Welcome to our pre-k inclusive classroom. Even with 8 students, and only face to face for 4 hours, we struggle. We struggle being heard through our masks. We struggle with social distancing. We struggle as we find ourselves constantly reminding students to keep their masks on. We struggle to keep them engaged and to teach. One thing we do not struggle with- building connections and showing out love for each child.
