When I lived alone I paid $2295 but that was on the outskirts of East Village near the hub of homelessness encampments. A friend of mine also got hit by a car over there while she was on foot, so I do not recommend that area. Most one bedrooms I see are around 3k or more, but you can find cheaper studios for like 2200-3500. It greatly depends on what area of San Diego and if it’s a newer building with amenities or not. I now live in a 3 bedroom with 2 roomies and pay $1550.
3 bdrm 3.5 bathroom townhome, 2 car garage but kind of small—1445 sq feet in 4S Ranch. I pay 2800, it’s a steal bc I rent from an individual landlord who owns this home and a few others.
Yea honestly at this price, it’s hard to justify buying bc same townhomes next to us are selling for 800-900k which bumps mortgage + escrow to 6k/month plus the 20% downpayment. In the 3 years I’ve been here, she’s raised rent only by 100/month once upon renewal but locked that rate in for next 2 years. Also, there’s literally no penalty to break lease at any point but I just need to give her a 2 month advance notice. But at this rate, I might rent from her forever…
Try your best not to go with an apartment complex! Find individual landlords if you can. I was SUPERRRRR lucky when I found my apartment back in 2017 and rent was $995 for 1bd1bath +parking+water with decent size (~700sqft). I pay 1290 now.
Craigslist or good old fashion rent hunt by driving around the neighborhoods you wanna live in.
$4.1k on a 2 bed by myself lol 🤷🏻♀️
Same here
$2900 for 1BD+office and 1.5 bath in Bankers Hill (split with spouse).
Can’t wait for those dual income days to come 🥰🤣
I pay 3k for a 1 bedroom. Def depends on where you live and what amenities you want. I wanted a parking garage and a pool, so I am willing to pay more.
$2700 2 bedroom 1 Bath La Jolla
Yes
You should note that here in SD, if the apartment complex is newer (like 2016 to present), then they aren't subject to the rent control laws. So they can increase your rent as much as they want when it's time to renew your lease.
After an 18 month lease with my old place, they tried to up the rent by 20%. So it would have been $3,000 for a one bedroom.
$4100/mo ☠️

$2300 1br PB
You can find something for $2k in a nice area. You will probably have to give up some amenities.
1950 rent in CV for 2b/1bth cottage, I don’t live alone so that amount is split with my partner but if you’re looking to live by yourself affordably, South Bay may have better options!
