How much do you care about your credit score if you aren’t financing any major purchases? I’m almost a year into being a homeowner for the first time and am feeling a cash crunch. But my SO has significant anxiety over any kind of debt. We just spent almost a decade being uber responsible and saving for this house and now I want to spend a little. I view this as a short term problem since both of our jobs are secure. I just want to be all settled into our new house.

I'm not necessarily concerned about my score but what exactly are you proposing? Carrying credit card debt at >20% APR is almost certainly a poor financial choice, ignoring any impact your score.

I am an entrepreneur and great credit + debt:to:income ratio are essential to survive. I made a big mistake almost 10 years ago and it took me a few years to rebuild my credit.

Maintain good credit.
Preserve cash.
But ALWAYS remember: YOLO

Your SO sounds sensible. Debt can make sense if you buy a cash-producing asset with debt, but that doesn’t sound like the situation here. You know how to tighten your belt to save for a future purchase; use that muscle.

What are the best things to specialize in if you want to be a CEO of a bank one day? I feel like I've been a generalist thus far in my career and want to narrow my focus. Should I go work for an investment bank for a few years? Focus on product maangement for a retail banking?

Would appreciate any thoughts or insights. Thanks!

How am I expected to bill 1900 hours when I only have 8 cases and when I ask for work no one responds. I even asked the partner in person for work and he said he was slow and didn’t have anything for me.This month I’ve only billed 80 hrs. Its making me anxious because I don’t want to get fired for low hours but also I’m a first year so will they have some mercy on me? Lol

Motions
I work in a midsize firm and we have the basic subscription to westlaw, which doesn’t include the ability to see filed briefs, motions, etc without incurring additional costs. I’m wondering if there is a service in the NJ/PA area that gives you access to previously filed motions and briefs? So if I’m drafting a summary judgment I could search the service and find a similar one. If this doesn’t exist.. I think I found the next million dollar idea lol

Seeking feedback on GAP insurance. I had a family member who purchased a car in June or July. They were in an accident last week and it sounds like the car will be declared a total loss. Never dealt with this before, so wanted to ask if anyone has ever had an instance where the insurance didn't cover the outstanding balance of the loan and the insured then owed money? Car was $35k, $7k down, finance $28k. Gap insurance is through lender, not auto insurer.

I NEED HELP WITH CREDIT SCORE issues: Two months ago my credit score went down by 30 to 40 points due to dad missing credit card payment by a day (i got added to as authorized user on his credit card for me to build credit but now I’m filled with regret). I was devastated by it. This past month I have been making more payments and paid off my aug statement in full thinking it will boost my credit score. But I don’t know why it went down another 10 points. More below:

I’ve always been a big saver minimum 15% to maxing out my 401k since I graduated college. I’m married to someone who thinks 6% is enough and likes $$$ cars. Other than the cars, they dont really spend money. For the married 🐠, how do you have the conversation with them that what they are doing isn’t enough? I try to guide them and say you want the $$$ cars but the salary you have won’t get there and you’re going to have to find a job that gets them the salary…. Then the fight starts.

My boyfriend and I make 200K combined and live in NJ. We have $1000 in monthly car payments combined. That’s all we owe. Our credit scores are in the 800s. We have 50K to put down on a home. We have done the math and I know we can afford much more but he doesn’t want to buy more than a 400K home. I’m almost positive we can afford 500K and be more than ok. But then he starts to talk about how much kids cost and how we will be house poor and we won’t be able to afford kids. 🤔 Am I insane??

Under contract for nearly 1.1M. Wife and I are at HHI $315k. Will go up in the future, $400k in 3 years and $500k possible in 5-7 years. We have $300k in non-retirement funds, $260k of which will go towards acquiring the house. We have 2 kids and will probably reduce (not maxing) retirement accounts next 18 months to do this. Anyone have any thoughts or feedback? We’ll have to live on a budget and watch but I feel we’ll get used to it and income will grow.
