You know if you'll pass, did you lie about anything? Most ppl who know they'll fail don't go for jobs that require one

like

I failed a background check once for Google because they claimed they couldn’t verify one of my prior employers. They came back to me though and I was allowed to provide tax docs as proof. I don’t know what you’re worried about failing but I assume they’ll come to you and ask, they wouldn’t just automatically rescind the offer.

like

And then you continued to be able to work for them?

Someone who lies on their resumes will definitely get caught during background checks.

like

False, plenty of people lie on their resumes and slip thru the cracks, especially in tech.

like

Unless you’re being check for a director or above role, background check will mainly focus on your criminal, and as far as resume/exp goes, they’ll do their best to verify, more often than not, they wont be able to verify fully, then they’ll typically ask you for tax docs, paystubs, etc. Background checks come after the offer, so they already liked you and your story, as long as its not a complete lie, you showed competency to perform for the role. Dont worry.

Thank you so much

I had a few unpaid internships at startups where I played a big role despite being an unpaid intern, so I have them on my resume as “assistant”. And I wouldn’t be able to provide w2/paystubs for them since they were not paid. I have maybe offer letters and email exchanges but don’t know if that’s enough proof

like

Never exaggerate. Always be truthful and put down your actual title. Why? Because they will now make judgements about you not being 100% truthful and accurate because you decided to make up a new title that didn't exist. So at this point I would say it's up to them to decide.

Is not about passing or failing. Is about lying that gets you caught

like

Agree. When I ‘failed’ as posted above, I wasn’t lying and I got a chance to provide proof.

How do we start that movement?…
