A thank you note within a day or two is very appropriate. After that, I would say every 1-2 weeks. more frequently than that starts to get annoying.
As a hiring manager, I appreciate the occasional follow up but that’s it. I have not forgotten about you. I’m moving as quickly as I can. the reminders don’t help you as a candidate - if I like you, I’ll remember you. If the process is dragging on it’s usually I’m waiting for someone else (usually finance, occasionally HR or someone higher than me) Or I’m having trouble scheduling a candidate. follow ups don’t help in either case.
(and anyone who says they’re waiting for more resumes is an inexperienced hiring manager)
Thank you! Super helpful
Thanks for clarifying that @Director 1, now you should do what you did here, but in an email back to all the people you like so they know you haven’t disappeared.
Until more recruiters/hiring managers do that, I suggest a follow up email once a week until you get an answer. Sooner if you have news that warrants an email before a week wait.
Could that be annoying? Possibly, but I’ve also had recruiters tell me “I’ll do X, Y, Z and get back to you tomorrow” to find out a week later when I send a follow up email that they didn’t do shit
I would add - feel free to pester recruiters more frequently. Even the in house ones have dozens of open positions. they might forget about you.
A hiring manager probably has 1 or maybe 2.
Do not follow up with the hiring manager, unless they are the one doing the recruiting themselves. Write a thank-you note within no more than 24 hours of interview expressing your continued interest. Then you follow up once a week with the recruiter who coordinates the hiring process and represents the company to candidates.
