If you in the front in the middle of a row and make a big deal out if it, it's rude and disruptive. So don't sit on the front row, do sit on an aisle, and don't make a show of leaving. People leave all the time. No one there is thinking about you.

This is why everyone always sits in the back, isn't it?

You’re not being held hostage, you’re free to leave 😂

My anxiety tells me otherwise LOL
I think it depends on your seating location and the atmosphere of the meeting. If you can leave quietly without disturbing others, it's usually fine. But if leaving would attract attention, it's best to wait until the meeting breaks. You don't have to stay to avoid hurting feelings, but respecting others is important

That's a good way to think of it.

I leave or pull out my laptop to knock out some work
1. It depends on your position,
2. also depends on if you are crushing a junior/young professional’s confidence by not giving them an opportunity to fail,
3. It depends on whether you are truly going to do something that will raise revenue or result in productive outcome, if you are going to just sit on toilet seat scrolling thru the phone ….
4. It depends on what your real intentions are. Some people in power do these things because they know they can, it makes them feel powerful
5. More importantly, if they fired you for being not so nice, would you walk out of the office with same smirk or confidence for last time from that office

I am not important at all and just want to use my time efficiently haha.
Just leave.
Conferences cost a lot of money. Since we budget the conference cost and M&E in our HR budget, the sessions have to add value. I require our team to provide executive summaries of what they’ve learned and how it will be applied in our workplace. As long as you aren’t disruptive when you leave, I’d say you should leave and find another session that will be of value to you and your organization. We also design a plan prior to attendance of who will attend which sessions and how we will maximize networking and vendor engagement.

This is my dream scenario for conference attendance. I'm making a spreadsheet for us next time.
It's not rude. And I always tell people they don't know why you left. Maybe you got a text. Your wife is sick. Your house got broken into. They don't know.

That's a good point! I hope others assume good intent.
