Just a slight add
- You can also do another role (~2 years) post MBB, as long as it’s strategy/ops with a good title. So think MBA=>MBB=>strategy role => PE Ops.
I’ve seen several ppl take a role between MBB and PE Ops and things work out fine.
Would something like supply chain/operations at FAANG be looked at positively? Or depends on the level?
Could you tell more about the last one: why worth it?
In the late stage of an application process for a start up. Thoughts on doing start up 1 year post McK then going PE Ops after?
Most of my sponsors and mentors are leaving. Not super interested in rebuilding my tribe here
This is great OP, thanks for this. A few quick questions:
1. How would you advise to do the networking? Is direct outreach to PE Ops practitioners in funds you are targeting acceptable / advisable? What else can one do?
2. How best to outreach with HH? Email them? Call their offices?
1. Find people who left MBB in the last 2-3 years to join PE Ops and reach out via email if you can (from MBB alumni or School Alumni databases) or LinkedIn if you don't have their email. Make sure to highlight you're a top performer and looking to move to PE Ops and would appreciate 15 mins of their time to hear their experience and get advice. Try to call out as many common ground things as you can (same MBB, same school, same city, etc)
2. Find the actual people who do OE recruiting and reach out via LinkedIn
any other consulting firms have a chance to get into PE ops?
Yes, but .. Generally MF and UMM funds focus exclusively on MBB for their generalist roles. MM and LMM are usually open to hiring from T2 consulting firms. Just look at the profile of the current team members and you'll know whether they are an MBB only shop.
Great post.
