I just got an email from a recruiter from Google!
Omgomgomgomg
He said that the position is in the Bay Area or New York. I haven’t replied the email. I don’t think we can move to those cities, but I don’t want to lose this opportunity. Does anyone know if Google does remote jobs within US?

SC1 I’m not saying you’re wrong but my wife transitioned to internal ops at PwC and she loves it. They take great care of her. She gets the type A go getter coworkers, same benefits, slightly less salary, much better WLB than she got at client services.
Exec I’m glad she’s happy but I’ve seen internal people work just as terrible of hours as we do and get very little credit (on my second big4 now). Generally, the best advice for someone in analytics and or operations (traditional back office roles) is to avoid firms where there are high ratios of revenue generating co-workers to the whole company ( consulting/banking generally the highest). This is because you will have significantly less say as a sole cost center than other teams at the firm. It’s really simple logic and it’s generally sound advice
Let me say it for everyone in the back. NEVER TAKE AN INTERNAL ROLE AT A CONSULTING FIRM! There you go you’re welcome
I’ve worked in consulting for 10 years across client serving and internal roles. Current role is internal doing strategy and ops for McKinsey - I have never been happier. I make less than my level peers in client service but have zero doubt that my hourly rate is better. I work 35 hours a week in busy times and bring home 200k a year, I would say internal at consulting firms has its place. Plus I effectively tell you client serving mofos what to do.
Like an internal data team or Enterprise Analytics office? Sometimes I also see these classified as COEs. We definitely have that in a lot of consulting firms as we work with all kinds of operations and finance data!
OP I know that EY and Deloitte have VERY different benefits for CORE (consultants) vs non-core (internal) professionals that generally aren’t advertised. Be diligent when researching those benefits
Keep in mind that most BCG and McK data roles are client-facing. Anything at BCG Gamma with the DS title is not back office, same goes for McKinsey QuantumBlack. Also there are no headquarters as commonly understood

I believe it’s pretty similar work tbh, perhaps less technical sometimes. A lot of the non-client-facing people still work on cases. Data science, data engineering, maybe dashboarding. Will depends on your exact role and staffing.
