How’s the culture in program management functions at Amazon?

Real talk - do you feel that you need to wear heels at work to be taken more seriously by everyone? Managers, partners, clients? I feel like the culture is for women to be in heels? New joiner.

New to fish bowl. I have been an insurance adjuster for 25 years. I work for State Auto Insurance. I have been with State Auto for a little over a year and to be honest it’s been the best insurance carrier I have worked for. They are hands off and let your claims experience run the claim process. The work culture is fantastic. Recently it was announced that Liberty Mutual would be acquiring State Auto. To say I’m a little disappointed is an understatement. Any thoughts from people that know LM?

Any American born Desis tired of being called "ABCD" from recently immigrated Desis? When I was in college, an ex-roommate and her friends constantly called me an "ABCD" where I had to prove that I was just as Desi with my family traditions, culture, visits to motherland, etc. Happened to me at work too. We shouldn't judge people by when their families immigrated to USA.

Struggling to start calling my in laws “mummy” and “papa” after marriage. I used to talk to them a lot before getting married and used to call them aunty and uncle. They are now gently pushing me to call them mummy papa but I just can’t. What did y’all do to get into the habit? If you don’t call your in laws mummy/papa or similar things, how do you address them? Would it be okay to call time by their names and add “ji” at the end?

Hi All, I joined Deloitte a few months back. I have not been able to adjust to the work culture and stress and pressure of my work. There are literally days when I just feel lost, so much that I have slipped into depression. I don't enjoy my job at all and I'm seriously thinking of quitting without any backup. I am thinking of taking a break for 2-3 months and just focus on my mental health. How bad of an impact it will have on my career and how difficult it will be to find a new job again?

I just matched with a guy on a dating app and he asked me what my race is almost immediately. For context, I’m Indian American, light skinned and he was Indian American as well. I find that Indian men often ask me my race and when they find out I’m not half white but am fully indian they unmatch me, but no white man has ever asked me my race. It seems there’s a large group of Indian men on this app, can someone enlighten me as to WHY Indian men have such hang ups with race? TYIA
