As a native Angeleno, I specifically really like street tacos. When I lived in NY, it took me 3 years to find good ones (heavy sear on the meat, spicy flavorful salsa, handmade tortilla, cilantro/onion/radish), but here, most trucks do them well, and stands where you can see the al pastor spit set up are even better. Huarache Azteca in Highland Park is solid. Guisados is pretty classic for carne guisado. For tacos in flour tortillas, Loqui is bomb. For mole, I like La Casita in Bell. Tacos Villa Corona for breakfast burritos. Damian for fancy Mexican.

Pretty much any taco trucks with al pastor tacos. Generally, for Mexican food, we cover a lot of Mexican regions here in LA. Hit up Chichen Itza and Holbox for excellent Yucatán food. Guelaguetza is fantastic for Oaxacan food + mezcal. Casablanca has a margarita cart and flour tortillas made in-person that melt in your mouth, it’s more gringo but a must visit. Plenty of vibey Mexican American spots with naugahyde booths: El Compadre, El Coyote, and La Cabaña

There’s frankly no comparing LA vs NY Mexican. I’ve lived in both spots, NY cannot touch anything close to what’s around.
I forgot about Salazar, too. All the comments about street tacos is totally accurate as well
