Rule of thumb: with price of property, don't go beyond 3x your gross annual income.
Another one: with monthly mortgage PITI payments, don't go beyond 33% of gross monthly paycheck

The info you've provided makes me believe you're very prudent financially. Run numbers of your own and don't take mortgage brokers' word at face value. You'll be doing great!

likehelpful

33% is high for housing ratio. I'd recommend no more than 25-28%.

You sound like you're aware of your finances. Just Google "mortgage calculator" and play with the numbers.

A 15 year mortgage with minimal financial pressure. I have 10k in cash emergency fund right now... in my situation what would be your max house price?

...how much is your end of day take home and how much are your bills?

End of day take home is Roughly 40k a year, but I can do a quick sell of ESPP as I get it (add roughly 10 k a year) I currently have no debt but current rent is very high right now (think 2k a month)(this was a necessary evil unfortunately) so currently I’m breaking even on paycheck

I’m saving up for a first home (3-5 yrs out, 30k saved) and looking for insights on safe amount to spend. HHI 300k (very recently doubled), 30k student debt, children in next few years, 29yo. We enjoy spending on vacations and hobbies so lower fixed costs, and interested in FI. Trying to figure out a balance between getting a dream home but setting up a secure future. We live in NE so housing and tax is high and stressed by the sticker. Any insights would be appreciated

Has anyone ever asked to renegotiate their salary after starting a job? I’m 2 months into my new job and I have far more responsibilities than what I was told. It’s a lot different than what was relayed in the posting and during the interviews. Additionally, they hired my counter part in as a senior manager which is at least $30k more than what I make. My peer has more experience so I expect that but I feel that I should be paid more, however I don’t want to leave a bad impression… any advice?

Is it too late in our lives to jump into a mortgage?

So my fiancée and I are relatively late in terms of finally landing well paying jobs and being able to save money instead of living paycheck to paycheck. We’re both 36 and currently rent a 2 bedroom in NY and have a combined savings of $35,000 which she wants to use as a down payment on a condo. I kinda just wanna continue saving while renting. I also literally just started contributing to my 401K so I’m also late in the game for that too.
