I am a mid-career lawyer (10-15 yoe), with the vast majority of that experience (including now) in an L&E federal agency attorney role.

I have read that it could be difficult to lateral into private practice at this point in my career without a book of business. Do you all find that to be true, even if I want to continue in L&E practice?

No, although you may have to lateral initially toa non partner track of counsel/attorney role.

Agreed. The big 4 are always looking to hire experienced lawyers. But going in as a partner/shareholder would be difficult at the equity level. But you could possibly go in as non-equity.

If you have litigation experience and are willing to come in as an associate/of counsel instead of a partner, I don't think it's too difficult. I made the jump last year and got a lot of interest.

Anyone else hate case studies. I understand what they are trying to assess, but I don’t feel they are the best measurement of ones ability to problem solve. I don’t have a solution though, so I’m really just complaining.

Hi! I’m Head of Insights at an agency in London. I built a team of 4 and oversee and train junior and mid-level insights analysts. I’ve been told that I’ll be promoted to Director next year but I might need to move to NYC because of my husband’s job. I’m a bit worried about finding a job similar to the one that I have now in NYC, especially because I’m Latin and I know how competitive New York can be. Any thoughts and recommendations?

What is considered a “large” caseload in employment litigation? I work at a large L&E boutique law firm and handling about 14-15 active litigation cases in state/federal court or arbitration. Some of these matters are multi-plaintiff and multi-defendant cases, but none are class actions. This does not include any matters I am handling in the charge stage or in pre-litigation. Not sure if that’s a typical caseload or not?

What do you think about the mismatch of labor and employment laws and the modern nature of our economy after the technological boom? Am I the only one who thinks (and am I crazy to think) there are some benefits to workers from the gig economy, and it might be best long term to pass new employment laws to ensure worker protections while maintaining these benefits instead of trying to shove the current gig economy back into the 1960s? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

I have a governmental entity client in Texas that wants to offer 6 weeks of paid parental leave for all employees, even those who aren’t eligible for FMLA. After the paid 6 weeks, the employee can choose to continue paid leave using any accrued personal leave.

Texas does not have a paid parental leave statute.

If paid leave above what is required is offered for parents, do we also have to provide the same benefit to other employees that are eligible for unpaid leave?
