I am a newish equity partner at a regional firm (Am Law 200) and I moved here with a large client that I serviced at a big law firm. In my 3rd week here an "of counsel" called me and reprimanded me for the "lazy" drafting in an assignment clause on an agreement. I told her the clause was fine but she escalated the issue to a partner that informed her that I am actually the person that gave him the deal because this was for my client. That "of counsel" has been avoiding me ever since that day.

Give people a break, they wanted it to be better in their opinion. The counsel needs to learn the pecking order but don’t punish them for trying to keep high quality work product. The way you use “of counsel” makes me think your 🍑 hurt. Let it go, make friends. Never know when you’ll need the person to service a client and make you money.

Looks like we found OPs alt account.

OK but was the clause actually fine?

It was indeed fine.

Yes. But I don't think this was motivated by gender.

Ice her out. She’s the kind of person who treats associates like shit and if you staff her you’ll lose out on working with the good associates at your new firm. I’m a mid level and a decent one, and I’m lucky to be able to choose with which partners I work. We associates all know who the shit partners/counsel/senior associates are and we all stay away if we can.

like

Did they think you were an NEP? Lol

I think she just didn't know who I was generally but she was told to use a precedent document I drafted.

like

That’s pretty strange. How did she somehow know you drafted this precedent but not who you were or that this was your client?

I agree it is strange. I think the reason it didn't seem like it was my client to her is because the work was coming through a highly respected rainmaker in her group who usually only deals with his own clients. But he took on a few matters for my client (which he is taking most of the origination credit for). I would have expected him to explain that to her before getting her involved, but he obviously didn't. Also, she is older and more experienced than me by about 10 years.

I am currently working as a delivery manager for a data science project where I manage both ML and DE teams. I am not sure what career path should I follow.

Should I move into either a core technical data science/data engineering role or move into a techno-managerial role like a program or project manager? What role would be best in terms of money, growth, and job security?

I’m a Senior Project Manager at an engineering consulting firm - I don’t have my PE as of yet and my compensation is $100k + bonus. Just a bit of background, at my firm a Senior PM is someone with 8+ years exp. I have 10 years experience and on track to making Principal in a couple of months. I seriously think I’m on the low end of the salary range as a Senior PM. What’s a typical Senior PM or Principal compensation in your firm?

Are there any books or other resources that mid levels/seniors/counsel/partners on here have found helpful for the project management / managing junior attorney aspects of your job?

I am not finding a lot of stuff written for lawyers specifically , but there is a lot directed at “managers” in business generally that I imagine could be applicable.

I’ve been working to an unhealthy degree lately. And I’ve been making the excuse that I have a lot of work right now, but I’m starting to wonder if I’m addicted to it. Part of it is anxiety and perfectionism. But my behavior is now actively harmful to myself and starting to harm my marriage.

How do I stop? I’m not talking work-life balance. I mean, how do I say, “I don’t care that the client wants this tomorrow and I’m not close to done, I’m going to sleep tonight”?

I have a governmental entity client in Texas that wants to offer 6 weeks of paid parental leave for all employees, even those who aren’t eligible for FMLA. After the paid 6 weeks, the employee can choose to continue paid leave using any accrued personal leave.

Texas does not have a paid parental leave statute.

If paid leave above what is required is offered for parents, do we also have to provide the same benefit to other employees that are eligible for unpaid leave?
