I've been in model governance for 6 years (non-technical) and it seems like every team I've been on has at least one person with a technical background so I don't think you'll feel out of place. And depending how the team is structured and/or project requirements, you may still need to lean on that technical experience. I don't see why it would limit you moving forward.
Adding, even as a non-technical role, I've been able to move around easily in the space.

I’ve been in governance and now in technical side. You don’t box yourself in; you make yourself more valuable.
As anyone that’s worth anything will tell you … the best of the risk folks will come from the business; and candidly; it’s not the other way around.
Risk management really LACKS business expertise… and in this case … of model governance … they need all the help they can get, truly.
I hate it when risk … is just a regurgitation of policy requirement … and at WFs that how it feels … just experts in policy. It’s mind blowing how simple activities have to broken down to them … and they still have “findings” that make no logical sense.
Rant over … back to your question…
No concers, buddy.
Keep up on the tools, logic, and continue to ask for certs to maintain your skillset. Also, in your new role … use your technical skills to mature the governance program … they need it … these people are still in excel and tableau.
You’re in a great spot - don’t let your new manager steal you accomplishments.
