McKinsey & Company I am joining the McKinsey & Company Boston office in late July and searching for housing in the meantime. If I could get some insight on the ratio of days in the office vs work from home that would be super helpful!

Ok on the leadership support point - I hear the frustration but let’s recount what we actually did do. We raised PL salaries by almost 20% and everyone else’s salaries by 10%, gave out 4-6 weeks in special bonuses, gave all staff a $300 monthly stipend and brought case expenses and affiliation spend back in a big way (you can expense meals at home for events, and you can have lots of events a week). we also offered 2 month breaks at 20% pay, gave everyone 5 extra days of vacation in 2021 and tried a dizzying array of other things (break days for PLs between cases, shutdowns on Friday, etc). Not everything worked but the idea that we haven’t been all over the challenges of WFH are ridiculous. And also we led the industry in pay increases, on top of paying full bonuses in 2020 and likely more than full bonuses this EOY.
Thank you both for jumping in a giving your perspectives.

I don’t think this is true at all. There is a lot of work - but it’s not at all un collaborative. I can ask for help from partners around the world and expect they’ll help, and I’ve never been in a situation on a case team where it’s been adversarial among team mates.
I’ve honestly heard pretty good things from friends who work there. I think all companies suffered in the pandemic, especially WFH in consulting when a lot of support and perks were not available and firms didn’t help recreate support structures right away. However, I think BCG was honestly a leader (within the consulting field not comparing to tech or something) in helping push for better benefits
Sure culture is not perfect, but It’s a whole lot better than the other consulting companies I’ve been at
Big 4, some boutiques
Switched from B4 to BCG recently, the culture imo is much better than B4 I was at, and I really enjoy it! That being said it is much more intense and everyone’s very smart so you’re expected to perform at same level, but so far I haven’t met any genuinely rude or mean people - everyone’s been really nice. The work from home burn out and intense workload - it exists everywhere even at my previous B4 - difference kind of you have to make it a point to communicate I’m burning out and need mental health time - which they accommodate really well here at BCG even more so than my previous B4. Also everyone is more than willing to help you on your case cause if you don’t get it right then the whole teams screwed, it’s a team effort not individual - so far have nothing bad to say, but I can guarantee you they do more than my previous B4 like much more
Agree entirely. I joined recently and the experience has been so good. I feel like I’ve learn more in 1 week here than 1 month elsewhere.
What things are you hearing?
Beyond what is mentioned below, I would also differentiate between consulting and industry differences. BCG and MBB consulting in general works at extremely fast iteration cycles. To be successful, this requires As and Cs to take on ton of ownership which can be seen as being left on an island. The As and Cs are meant to drive the hypotheses and the potential answers, and then the leadership team collaborates with them to calibrate and steer those answers. You get a ton of input if you are able to put stuff on paper.
The culture and people are some of the best parts of this job
